Given the state of the world right now, and how bad the mainstream media is at doing their job, and my penchant for incessant rambling, I’ve decided I’m going to start doing a series of posts for this election year in the theme of “Why should I give a fuck?”
I’ll present an issue, like education, or voter rights, or other serious issues that the election will have an impact on but that won’t get a lot of play on television, and some cursory information, and then, I’ll present reasons on why you should give a fuck. The posts will be accessible to everyone, and I particularly have people in mind who are typically ambivalent or even apathetic towards politics.
Of course, when I present reasons that you “should” care about something, it’s not really a prescriptive should. I’m really interested in demonstrating that you are living in a world where some of this political nonsense actually has significant effects that, if you were presented with them fairly, you would actually have a meaningful emotional response to, and you would have opinions. Usually, the media is just trying to shape what you have opinions about, and most news outlets are perfectly fine with you being ambivalent about things.
So yeah. It’ll be politics for people that aren’t politically inclined, and news for people who hate news. My first post is going to be about the educational policies of our two current presidential candidates, and why you should give a fuck. Not because you’re somehow a bad person if you don’t but, I think being presented with things fairly and sensibly opens the door for you to care about them in a meaningful way to you, instead of in the generic bull shit way that most people “care” about politics.
And for the record, I’m not a registered democrat or republican, and I don’t have a particular ideology. Mostly, I’m interested in how things work, and whether or not they actually, you know, work.
